I'll Be Back...

Actually, I am heading on vacation to Minnesota for Evie's wedding (you remember, my beautiful but misguided niece). I hope to be able to be back to a more normal blogging life while I am there. There are a lot of things to talk about, and only 68 days (give or take) to talk about them. In the meantime, there are a couple of things that make for good reading.

First, Iran is not going to go away quietly any time soon. Here is an exerpt from a short article earlier today.

Iran has left no doubt it intends to seek nuclear weapons now that it has violated a U.N. Security Council deadline to suspend uranium enrichment, and the council must now be ready to impose sanctions, U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said Thursday.

Second, there was a short editorial on the opinion page of the Wall Street Journal Online that was worth reading. It basically gives you a rundown of the "new" leaders of the house, should the democrats muster a takeover in November. It seems that there would be no one new in any positions of importance, just the same tax and spend congressmen that America voted out of power in 1994. Note the dates that their tenure began. A sneak peek...

If you think Republicans have been spendthrift, don't expect much change from Wisconsin's David Obey (class of 1969) at Appropriations. Mr. Obey was one of those Democrats who ripped Mr. Clinton for endorsing a balanced budget in 1995. Rather than cut spending, his goal would be to spend less on defense and more on domestic programs and entitlements.

Make no mistake, these people can't be trusted to govern this country. Register to vote...and get your neighbors to do the same. I agree that republicans have not given us any reason to vote them back in office, but for our children's sake, we can't afford not to either.
