I don't know about you...
but I think it is just a little ironic that my favorite swimmer Senator Ted "give me another Bloody Mary.....Jo" Kennedy is writing a childrens book based on his dog, and I'm not making this up, a Portuguese Water Dog named....are you ready for this....Splash.
"Kids love animal stories, and they will be captivated by the tale of Senator Kennedy's extraordinary Portuguese Water Dog, and his adventures in Congress!," said Lisa Holton, President Children's Books and Book Fairs, Scholastic. "The Senator's book gives readers a true behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of a Senator through a dog's-eye view and will help kids learn about the work of our elected officials in a unique and fun way."
My Senator and Me: A Dog's-Eye View of Washington, D.C. tells the story of Senator Kennedy and his dog, Champion Amigo's Seventh Wave (nicknamed "Splash" by his original owner) and a day in their life in the Senate. A Portuguese Water Dog, Splash is always at Senator Kennedy's side - in his office, at press conferences, in meetings at the Capitol and even right outside the Senate chamber.
It is too bad that Splash wasn't at the Senator's side when he decided to drive Mary Jo Kopechne off of a bridge and leave her to drown in his car. Perhaps Splash wouldn't have been drunk out of his mind and been able to reach her instead of hiding out for twelve hours sobering up.
