I'll Be Back...

Actually, I am heading on vacation to Minnesota for Evie's wedding (you remember, my beautiful but misguided niece). I hope to be able to be back to a more normal blogging life while I am there. There are a lot of things to talk about, and only 68 days (give or take) to talk about them. In the meantime, there are a couple of things that make for good reading.

First, Iran is not going to go away quietly any time soon. Here is an exerpt from a short article earlier today.

Iran has left no doubt it intends to seek nuclear weapons now that it has violated a U.N. Security Council deadline to suspend uranium enrichment, and the council must now be ready to impose sanctions, U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said Thursday.

Second, there was a short editorial on the opinion page of the Wall Street Journal Online that was worth reading. It basically gives you a rundown of the "new" leaders of the house, should the democrats muster a takeover in November. It seems that there would be no one new in any positions of importance, just the same tax and spend congressmen that America voted out of power in 1994. Note the dates that their tenure began. A sneak peek...

If you think Republicans have been spendthrift, don't expect much change from Wisconsin's David Obey (class of 1969) at Appropriations. Mr. Obey was one of those Democrats who ripped Mr. Clinton for endorsing a balanced budget in 1995. Rather than cut spending, his goal would be to spend less on defense and more on domestic programs and entitlements.

Make no mistake, these people can't be trusted to govern this country. Register to vote...and get your neighbors to do the same. I agree that republicans have not given us any reason to vote them back in office, but for our children's sake, we can't afford not to either.

Happy Birthday Laura

I want to wish my sister, Laura a very happy birthday today. Happy birthday to my only (and much older) sister. I love you Laura! See you in a couple of weeks.

9/11 Tapes

Today, 1600 + emergency response tapes were released to the public. Many of them are garbled communication between dispatcher and fireman or police officer and therefore difficult to gain the context of the situation. Others, however pull at your heart and provide chilling reminders of an unprovoked attack on our homeland that took us headlong into the war on terror.

I heard some of the tapes on the radio this afternoon, and I was immediately thrown back nearly 5 years. I don't know how you can listen to those tapes without your heart pounding and your eyes welling up in tears. The anger returns as well, and you remember who we are fighting, why we are fighting and what we are fighting for.

With the thwarted terror attacks of last week, the reminders (unfortunately needed by many) of 9/11 and the recent celebrating by the left on their "victory" in Connecticut, there is one thing that is crystal clear to me. We cannot turn the security of this country over to a party that has no plan or intestinal fortitude to win this war (doing the "cut and run" is not a victory dance). The democrats are weak on message, weak on security and defense, weak on character, weak on morality, weak on God and will be the first one's to tell you that America is to blame for all of the world's woes. The world will be a much more dangerous place if they win in November. I urge all of you to do your part and make sure that it doesn't happen.

The last post on the subject

At least for now. I will leave you with several different posts from the National Review Online.

Here is The Great One, Mark Levin on Lieberman, or actually Lamont.

Here is Michael Moore with a message to his own party, which he is truly trying to make in his image (yech).

And here is a symposium that breaks it down quite nicely.

Tomorrow is another day (the family motto). I will see you then.

God bless.

One in and One out

Senator Joe Lieberman was targeted by the left from the beginning, and while he is not out of the picture, he is out as the democratic candidate. In all probability his bid for re-election as an independent candidate will be successful and he will retain his seat. That doesn't mean he will change his voting habits. Lieberman is a liberal through and through. His only crime, an unforgivable crime as viewed from the left, was that he voted and supports the war against terror, thus siding with President Bush. This is where the new math comes in handy.

Bush bad = Lieberman bad
Can't touch George = Joe must go

What they don't seem to realize is that by devouring one of their own, they have weakened themselves. A house divided must fall.

Now lets travel south to my state of Georgia. Cynthia McHideous....I mean McKinney, has lost her runoff election against former judge Hank Johnson in the heavily democratic fourth district. It was a narrow defeat of almost 20 percentage points. This means very little other than the lunatic Congresswoman will not be going back to Washington for at least another couple of years. The republican repeat candidate Catherine Davis doesn't stand a chance. Today, Ms. McKinney blamed her defeat on "white people and republicans crossing party lines". Classy, right up until the end.

Ms. McKinney is certainly part of the hard core left (not just because of her insanity). She claims that President Bush had prior knowledge of 9/11 after all. And you couldn't find anyone who is more anti-war than her. Hank Johnson actually seems to be quite reasonable and intelligent, although I disagree with his opinions on almost everything. At least a person can have a conversation with him.

So, why go through the work of ousting Lieberman and not try to salvage McKinney? The only person who showed up for her campaign was Cindy Sheehan. Could it be that Rep. McKinney is even too nuts for Michael Moore...George Soros...Al Gore...Alec Baldwin...

Look Out Joe

It took no time at all for Senator's Schumer, Reid, Kerry and Clinton to get their face time in front of the mainstream media so they could announce their support of Ned Lamont, the challenger who defeated Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut primary yesterday. Senator Lieberman barely had enough time to announce that he is going to continue his campaign as an independent, before the democrats were circling their wagons around the anti-war candidate.

Senator Lieberman has spent 30 years in public life, 18 of those in the Senate, but loyalty means nothing to the Moveon.org types who are now in charge of his party. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a good thing for the republican party for this to have happened. It gives them issues to use against this modern day democratic party. It shows that there is no place for anyone with a thought not in line with the far left. It's Michael Moore or bust.

Ah, loyalty. Joe, with friends like those...

The Conyers Way

Representative John Conyers has just released his "investigative report" on the Bush Administration. Byron York of National Review Online, has broken it down for us. Basically it is more of the same left wing talking points about how President Bush has thrown the constitution out the window and lied to the American public. Plain and simple, it is Conyers playbook on the chance that democrats gain control of the house, and he becomes Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Here is the first paragraph of a must-read column.

There’s a word you won’t find in the text of Democratic Rep. John Conyers’s new “investigative report” on the Bush administration, “The Constitution in Crisis: The Downing Street Minutes and Deception, Manipulation, Torture, Retribution, and Coverups in the Iraq War, and Illegal Domestic Surveillance.” And the word is…impeachment. Yet the 350-page “Constitution in Crisis,” released last week, is, more than anything else, a detailed road map for the impeachment of George W. Bush, ready for use should Democrats win control of the House of Representatives this November. And Conyers, who would become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee — the panel that would initiate any impeachment proceedings — is the man who could make it happen.

This is one of many reasons why the democrats cannot be allowed back in power. They are a shrill, vindictive lot who still has a vendetta against this president for the 2000 elections.

HRC Alert!

I know that the 2008 presidential elections aren't for a while yet, and I know that I am just getting started blogging again, but I couldn't resist posting about a recent column in the Boston Herald. My beautiful niece Evie, who happens to be getting married in September, is going to have some bad nights after reading this, but it is for her own good.

Apparently, the junior senator from New York doesn't enjoy a positive following in New Hampshire, a bellwether state in the primaries.

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Dick Bennett has been polling New Hampshire voters for 30 years. And he's never seen anything like it.

Lying b**** . . . shrew . . . Machiavellian . . . evil, power-mad witch . . . the ultimate self-serving politician.

No prizes for guessing which presidential front-runner drew these remarks in focus groups.

But these weren't Republicans talking about Hillary Clinton. They weren't even independents.

These were ordinary, grass-roots Democrats. People who identified themselves as likely voters in the pivotal state's Democratic primary. And, behind closed doors, this is what nearly half of them are saying.

This, of course is music to my ears, but not altogether surprising. I have heard on many occasions that Madam Hillary is not as popular with the democratic party as the mainstream media would have you believe. People often tell me that President Bush is too polarizing, but from everything I can dig up, Hillary has George beat 10 fold. Here is more:

"I was amazed", says Bennett. "I thought there might be some negatives, but I didn't know it would be as strong as this. It's stunning, the similarities between the Republicans and the Democrats, the comments they have about her."

Bennett runs American Research Group Inc., a highly regarded, independent polling company based in Manchester, N.H. He's been conducting voter surveys there since 1976. The polls are financed by subscribers and corporate sponsors.

His conclusion? "Forty-five percent of the Democrats are just as negative about her as Republicans are. More Republicans dislike her, but the Democrats dislike her in the same way."

Read the whole thing. Let's pray the hits keep on coming.

No choice for Delay

The Houston Chronicle has a story up on the latest events on Tom Delay and his bid to stay retired.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia rejected a request from Texas Republicans on Monday to allow the GOP to replace former U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay on the general election ballot.

"In terms of legal options, they are exhausted," Republican lawyer James Bopp Jr. Said. "The order will stand requiring Tom DeLay to stay on the ballot."

I personally believe that if a man truly doesn't want to run for office, nothing can make him do so. I haven't been following this race enough to know if this has been a political ploy all along on Delay's part, or if he is basically being forced to run for an office that he doesn't want to hold any longer. I have, however seen him on various television programs where he is asked about running again, and I have to say, he doesn't seem to be to upset at the likelihood.

I will do some digging and keep my eyes open. This could turn out to be a very interesting race.

UPDATE: A statement from Tom Delay today:

"I will take the actions necessary to remove my name from the Texas ballot. To do anything else would be hypocrisy," DeLay said in a statement. "I strongly encourage the Republican Party to take any and all actions necessary to give Texas voters an up-or-down choice this fall between two major party candidates."

3 Months

That's right, 3 months...92 days until the mid-term elections. The mid-terms of 2006 should not be underestimated or overlooked. The stakes are as high as they have ever been. I have no desire to wake up after the elections to have Nancy Pelosi be the speaker of the house. The thought of having Senator Reid be Majority leader sends shivers up my spine.

It is time for all conservatives to get the vote out. The only way to prevent what I have described is by having a massive voter turnout similar to 2004. I know there are many conservatives who feel that the republican party has abandoned them, I include myself in that category. Believe me, the alternative would be much worse.

Tired as I am from my traveling schedule, I am going to do everything I can to see that republicans retain control of both houses. I am returning to blogging on a more regular basis to do my part in getting the word out. I will research the issues to make sure that there is an alternative to the "drive by media" as Rush calls them.

Once the elections are over, it will be up to all of us to keep the republicans feet to the fire. This is their last chance to get things right and to do the job we sent them there to do. If I wanted a democrat in office, I would have voted for them. Let's get this election over with, and give the president both houses of congress so that he can do his job.
