More from the left on the new pope

I saw this over at Hugh Hewitt's blog today.

From the Minneapolis Star Tribune: "Greater roles for women, a more welcoming posture toward gays and lesbians, and a moderation of views on sexuality, genetic research, euthanasia or contraception to prevent AIDS -- none of these is likely to gain ground under Benedict. As a Vatican official, he also opposed Turkey's entry into the European Union, forbade German Catholics from sharing communion with Lutherans at a joint gathering in 2003..."

There is a lot more from the usual suspects of the MSM and I encourage you to go to Hugh's site and read the whole thing. There are also many links to sites where people actually know what they are talking about.

My problem with arguments like these is that it puts you in a position to look like a homophobic person (or an xxxxphobe for whatever position you are opposing). With the exception of greater roles for women and the opposition of Turkey into the EU, these are not unique stands of Christians in general, as well as many other if not all religions.

Pope Benedict's position on homosexuality has its roots in the bible, the same with euthanasia and embryonic stem cell research. Hello people! His sticking to the scriptures is kind of a job requirement for his position.

The elitist left wants validation for the morally bankrupt paths that they have chosen to follow. Somebody needs to tell them that there has been a change in the tide, not only in this country, but around the world as well. Social liberalism has had its day and brought such wonderful things to our society such as herpes and AIDS and a generation of people wanting hand out after hand out. To be honest with you, I am tired of it, and I'm tired of paying for it.

Hate Mongers

This from TKS is very distressing. Where does all the hate come from? If things continue to progress (regress?) along these lines, someone in a position of power that these nuts don't like is going to get assassinated. What a sad way to live your life.

They Can't Help Themselves

The New York Times has already labeled Pope Benedict a far right conservative only one day after he was elected. I will wait until I have a little more information on the new pontiff before I put him in any category. If he does turn out to be on the conservative side, I would suggest that between that and our own elections, that maybe the people of the world are trying to tell the left wing zealots that it is time for a change. As far as the left listening....I'm not holding my breath.

Cardinal Ratzinger is Pope

From this moment on, Joseph Ratzinger will be going by the name Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Benedict is from Germany for those of you who didn't know. It took an amazingly fast 2 sessions to pick the odds on favorite....if I can put it like that.

Black Smoke

Black smoke was seen coming from the Sistine Chapel this evening as the first day of meetings between the cardinal's came to a close signifying that a new pope was not chosen. I don't think anyone was expecting a different outcome than that, but you never know. The process will resume tomorrow.

Judicial Appointments

Given my current situation, I have not been able to keep up with everything going on with the constitutional option as I should be, but I do (surprise) have an opinion as far as if and when the republicans should make it happen.

This is no time to be pussy-footing around. There are 55 republican senators representing this nation. Simply stated, the people of the various 50 states have spoken and voted overwhelmingly that they wanted the president's judicial appointments to have a simple majority up or down vote by the whole body of the senate.

That said, what I believe needs to happen, assuming the democratic minority goes with another filibuster, is to change the rules immediately. To do anything less will be political suicide. The people have voted to put a leash on this judicial system that has run amok. They are trusting the party in power to do what they (as well as some democrats)have promised they were going to do. If they do not, then they had better beware the next election. They could easily find themselves in the minority in '06.

If the democrats bring the senate to a screeching halt as Harry Reid has said, then they will find themselves in an even larger minority. There aren't enough left wing nuts out there anymore to put up with anything like that.

On another note, if John McCain votes against the rule change he can kiss his presidential bid goodbye. He is popular enough in his state that I don't think he would be in any danger of losing his seat, but his vote would look like a stab in the back to the republican base and they simply won't vote him past the primaries.

Out of touch

OK, so the new job, temporary living quarters (thanks Ted and Elaine, you guys are the best) and driving back and forth to see my wife twice a week have taken their toll on my blogging. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep the pace that I had been, but I didn't think that it would be quite this bad. So once again I apologize for not being around much lately, but right now my biggest concern is getting my house sold and bringing Mrs. Scar up here are my biggest priorities (not that I'm giving up on trying). Please hang in there.

More on Sandy "Pants" Berger

Robert Moran has a short article on the Sandy Burglar affair at NRO here. He calls for the republicans to put forth a bill that would call for harsher penalties (being grounded by your parents is harsher than Berger's plea agreement) for stealing classified documents. It's a good idea, and one that the republican's should consider.

House duties

It has been a weekend of cleaning up for our open house today (2-4, come by ith your checkbook). Mrs Scar and I are finally done, with the exception of the vacuuming that I will get to just this side of 2:00. I hope to have a good turnout. I can think of a lot better things to be doing than driving back and forth to Atlanta three times a week. It cuts into my writing time quite a bit, as I'm sure you can tell.

There are many things that happened during the week that I hope to have a chance to blog about later today. Sometime after the open house I guess.

Sandy Burglar gets a slap on the wrist

Sandy "pants" Berger peaded guilty to stealing classified documents from the National Archives and then shredding them with a pair of scissors. He did not accidently take the documents as he swore to investigators, he intentionally stole them and destroyed them. So what is the punishment for his crimes? A $10,000 fine and losing his security clearance for 3 years.

Lets review, shall we? Martha Stewart went to jail and is under house arrest (such as it is) for lying to investigators.

Burglar should never be allowed to have his security clearance back. He has shown that he can't be trusted with it. He certainly should be required to serve at least the same jail sentence that Martha Stewart served.

Can you imagine the outrage of the MSM if this were a republican. It would be a security issue of the highest magnitude. They would want blood, and they wouldn't stop until they got what they were looking for. I cannot believe the pass this guy is getting.

Rest in Peace

The vatican confirmed that Pope John Paul II died about a half hour ago. I am not catholic, but this still saddens me greatly.
